This procedure typically improves the appearance of the perineum, corrects functional problems, or restores the area after childbirth.

What Happens During Perineoplasty?

Under general anesthesia, a small incision is made between the vagina and anus (perineum) to remove any scar tissue or deformities caused by childbirth to improve the appearance and function of the perineum.

The procedure usually takes about two hours.

Post-operative Care: Perineoplasty

  • Keep the area clean and dry
  • Wear a supportive undergarment and use a pillow to support your perineal area
  • Take pain medications as directed
  • Avoid strenuous activities, such as heavy lifting or running for 4 weeks
